Abstract
To confirm the effect of carbon mono-oxide poisoning, we measured p02 & PCO2 in arterial & venous blood; Pt-O,-(brain, myocardium, liver) and 2,3-DPG concentration in whole blood from normal 12 rabbits(control group-1). After then the rabbits were inhaled CO gas for 30 minutes (CO -poison group-1), same above items were checked.
On the other hand, healthy ACD-stored blood(12 pints)was divided 2 parts anaerobically an stored at 2-6 ¡ÆC. One part (control group-2) leave as it is: another part(CO poison group-2) is treated with CO gas. During the storage, pH, PCO2, p02, 2, 3-DPG, Na+, K+ and glucose were checked.
The results were followed:
1) Concentration of 2, 3-DPG in whole blood was not changed with CO intoxication.
2) Unconsciousness following CO intoxication is caused by hypoxia of brain tissue.
3) Hypoxia of liver tissue is very severe in CO intoxication. So, more intensive search was recommended in recovery stage from CO intoxication.
4) Potassium concentration is more rapidly increased in CO intoxitation group-2 than control group-2 during storage. It seems that red cell in CO intoxication group-2 is more destroyed than control group-2.
